Margareta "Meta" McDonald was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. At the urging of her father, she studied mathematics, physics, and chemistry. After a teaching career which took her to Lapland, Montreal, Hong Kong, and Connecticut, she retired to Maine. Here, this granddaughter of K. Hugo Segerborg, Director of the Royal Art School in Stockholm, was finally able to embrace her first passion - painting.

Her formal art studies began midlife, with a focus on art therapy at the University of Bridgeport. She continued to take classes at SUNY Purchase and Silvermine Art School in Connecticut. Moving to Maine gave her the opportunity to study at Maine College of Art through the Continuing Ed Program, often with Janet Manyan.

Meta's work has been exhibited internationally. Local venues include The Chocolate Church in Bath, The Clown Galleries, formerly in Portland and Belfast, Elizabeth Moss Gallery of Falmouth, and Cape Cottage of Cape Elizabeth. She is a frequent art auction participant, including Maine Audubon Society's annual event, and the MECA Art Auction.

After living in so many cultures, Meta feels she finally has come home, living in Maine.

"I paint to celebrate life," she says. "I see my life in warm and happy colors." Her paintings reflect this joy.
